It can be daunting when seeing a new health professional diving deep into your health history. You can find reassurance that they are professionals in what they do and have likely worked with many clients managing endometriosis. They are there to help you and ensure you feel safe and supported.
Here are a few tips before your first appointment to get the most out of your session.
- Be prepared. Before your appointment, take some time to think about what you want to discuss. What are your goals for exercise? What are your biggest challenges? What symptoms do you experience that you think exercise could help? What is your history with exercise? Any exercises that you do not enjoy? What exercises do you love and want to get back to?
- Be honest and open. It's important to be honest with your exercise physiologist about your endometriosis and any other health conditions you have. This will help them develop a safe and effective exercise plan for you. The more they know about you the more specific and individualized they will be able to make your program.
- Ask questions. Don't be afraid to ask questions about exercise and endometriosis. Your exercise physiologist is there to help you understand how exercise can improve your symptoms and quality of life. We as health professionals LOVE questions! Please ask as many as you like and there are no silly questions, we want you to feel as informed as possible during our session.
Good luck on your exercise and endometriosis journey, it will be a process but well worth it in the end when you can manage symptoms through exercise.
